HAPPY ALLHALLOWEEN!

Mission Three: Happy Halloweek!
what's up? Wizard Las Vegas goes all in for Allhalloween. There’s an entire week of celebration leading up to the big day, and this year, at least one day of afterparty. Office hours have been short since Monday. Even Eleanor Oddtree is aware that her employees might want to get out and experience the once-in-a-lifetime party. All of the staff might be found at one bar or another, except maybe Eleanor herself. One has to maintain some dignity.

Which doesn’t mean it’s all play and no work, by any means. Everett Oddtree’s team has been charged with keeping the peace and working security. Arden, in the meantime, has a lead. He’s heard tell of a possible stolen artifact being part of a costume, so he’s going to need his team to snoop around and see if they can find it.

So the Auror office is loosed into the night. All of the magical bars up and down the strip are open 24-7. The buildings are all draped in decorations, some old-fashioned cutesy, some downright frightening. Dancing and drinking spill out in the city streets, be-costumed people drifting in and out of bars and dances alike. Have fun, but keep one eye open. All sorts of ghouls and goblins come out to play in this big playground.
how this works! This mission is technically backdated! It started on the 29th!! Sorry!! Time will continue to work in our weird way, and this will last one week of both wizard and our time!

Most of this is free-form! Please just party! However, we'll also post petitions for Arden and Everett's respective teams asking characters to outline their actions. Please feel free to RP out your actions, whether that be spying or security over the week. You have until November 6 to fill out the petition, at which point we'll be deciding who is best to usher in what happens next. Petition winners will be the ones responsible for some key plot points! If your character isn't signed up on either Everett or Arden's team, they're welcome to do so in the downtime, and can participate in the event. ONE character per team each, of course!

Kind of like last time, there'll be more action toward the end of the night/week. That will definitely depend on what we receive in the way of petitions, and also what you do in the party, so keep logging with each other and have fun!
locations! TRICK OR TREAT!: The Vegas wizarding attractions get together each year and form a trick-or-treat party, urging partiers to go door to door and stay a while. Participants can collect a talking pumpkin bucket from the Clown Car before they head on their way, if they want something to collect treats in and give terrible advice about their costumes. The Clown Car also offers a stamp card, and if people can give evidence that they went to each participating vendor, they get free drinks until Christmas. The catch here is, although it’s misleading, none of the rest of the bars really are in on the stamp system, so participants will have to document their arrival at each place. Be creative! (Wins will not be documented, this will be up to you, it's just for flavor!)

There’s a certain competitive quality to this event, and each bar tries to one-up the next. Persephone’s Parlor is giving out specialty cocktails in half-pomegranates. Felicis is offering free drink coupons. Zak Bagans’ museum got in on this and there’s a free tour offer this weekend, and so forth. It’s a lot of walking, but free drinks until Christmas!

PERSEPHONE'S HAUNTED PARLOR: Persephone’s Parlor really takes its name seriously this week. The usually lavish speakeasy has made the route through its doors a little trickier. Visitors will have to walk through the building upstairs, rented out for this purpose, which is decked out to resemble a modified Greek interpretation of the underworld. Just inside the front door, Catriona the three headed dog is in her element, and stands guard in front of the stairway, which is sort of like the River Styx. There’s not rooms for all the halls of the underworld, here, but at the bottom of a stairway they now have to float down, an employee judges the newcomers and send them either to Elysium, a VIP party in a private lounge, or Tartarus, a grubbier part of the bar where the live lute players are just a little too loud.

Charon and Catriona, it should be noted, are only living staff members tonight. Persephone’s always hires a ghost staff on Halloween, consisting of party goers from every generation possible to party in Vegas. They’re full of stories for those lucky enough to get in the door.

FELICIS COSTUME CONTEST:
The biggest party on the wizarding strip is, naturally, at Felix Felicis. The casino, dark and lit in blacklight and candles, flings its doors open to welcome patrons. False skeletons walk around serving drinks. Each slot machine has changed to Trick or Treat! as its only game, and either explodes with a whole lot of money, candy, or on the rare triple-trick, an unidentified green slime right into the hands of the customer.

On Halloween night itself, Felicis holds a costume contest that is open to the public and therefore the Aurors. For a low, low price of 10 dragots to enter, participants sign up to walk on a raised catwalk over the heads of hundreds of applauding guests, and are judged on their costume’s creativity, style, and design. The prize is 1000 dragots and a night of free drinks! Second and third place also get cash prizes.

PETITIONS: Post your forms here!

MUCH, MUCH LATER ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT...: [REDACTED]

OOC - QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS!

EVERETT'S GROUP: Keeley Little

1. How did they contribute to the security measures for the festival? Meticulous observation, mostly. Keeley never knows what to do with himself during such festivities anyway and he's more than capable of ignoring the costumes and the decorations and the spooky shenanigans to focus on the behavior of the attendees instead. He'll be making the rounds all night and keeping an eye out for unusual behavior, attempts at sleight of hand (nobody's stealing candy from babies on his watch!), and situations that might be escalating toward confrontation. If he notices someone acting strangely more than once and thinks they need to be tailed and/or subtly interviewed, he'll probably pass the ball to another member of the squad that's more practiced at such things than he is. He knows where his strong points are and, at the end of the day, he's no spy. Teamwork!

2. How do they handle spooks and scares? Surprisingly well. He might freeze up in even the simplest of social situations, but he's grounded and composed when dealing with most other pressure, especially when he's expecting the manufactured spooks. If anyone gets the jump on him from behind, though, they might get a reflexive elbow to the gut.

3. What are their general feelings on Halloween? ...It's fine. But he's never been good at pretending to be something he's not. Plus, it's sort of for kids, isn't it?

4. What's their combat style? Keeley can handle himself in a duel and in a physical altercation. In either instance, his style is defensive with a focus on protecting himself or others first and distracting, disabling, or disarming his opponent second.

5. Are you okay with your character getting moderately injured? Yep! :) Take his eye for good this time.

1. How did they contribute to the security measures for the festival? As an auror of some renown, Astrid's presence likely exerted some pressure in and of itself. Her main contribution, though, was in attempting to develop a potion that would glow in the presence of dark magic. When applied to the hands, for instance, it wound begin to glow whenever the bearer came in close proximity with an artifact or spellwork that was assuredly dangerous. (I just made this up hi)
2. How do they handle spooks and scares? Working with potions and explosions has necessitated developing something of an iron will. Astrid is not easily spooked.
3. What are their general feelings on Halloween? Oh, loves it. Loves costumes and costuming and going all out with something fancy.
4. What's their combat style? Lobbing potions from cover first, then slinging spells. Astrid is more of a siege weapon than infantry.
5. Are you okay with your character getting moderately injured? Oh hell yeah.

EVERETT'S GROUP: Teagan Oddtree

1. How did they contribute to the security measures for the festival? Patrolling, breaking up rowdy gatherings, warning anyone engaging in ~illegal activity~. More than once gets "what are you, a cop?" spat at him. Will also use concealed magic to push apart belligerent people or empty people's drinks. Just trying to control the level of chaos.
2. How do they handle spooks and scares? He's a bit on edge, so a good jumpscare can still get him.
3. What are their general feelings on Halloween? Ambivalent. It reminds him of better times, when he used to go in harder for the festivities and party all night long. He just wants it to be over, mostly.
4. What's their combat style? Up close and personal. If a fight breaks out, Teagan will not hesitate to wade in with either spells or punches. He's a blunt hammer when it comes to conflict.
5. Are you okay with your character getting moderately injured? fuck him up

EVERETT'S GROUP: Kit Mulholland

1. How did they contribute to the security measures for the festival? Kit fusses with some spellwork that helps the team to track the movement of people throughout the party, and monitors the presence of any Dark Magic (but subtle use might slip through the net). He also periodically uses locating spells to make sure he knows where the rest of the team is. He's not a good bouncer by any means, and doesn't have the confident air of an Auror, so he largely goes unnoticed by party guests. Kit uses this to his advantage by listening in on conversations and noting anyone behaving unusually.

Also: Before the mission, Kit tries to bully people into letting him do some quick divination on them. Just a tiny tarot reading! The cards might have some good advice.
2. How do they handle spooks and scares? Kit psyches himself up to brace himself against the spooks, but it just makes him even more high-strung. He yelps every time.
3. What are their general feelings on Halloween? Enjoyable! Kit's much more interested in the gothic, occult side of the holiday but the party is fascinating. He loves the pageantry of the costumes.
4. What's their combat style? Creative, slapdash and a bit rusty. Kit hasn't been in a proper on-the-job altercation in years, and has become accustomed to desk duty. He does know a lot of spells, though.
5. Are you okay with your character getting moderately injured? Yes please.

EVERETT'S GROUP: Linden Krup

[personal profile] lickspittle 2020-11-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
1. How did they contribute to the security measures for the festival? By inserting himself into every situation and trying to diffuse them. A conversation is starting to turn heated? Linden puts a large hand on the people's shoulders and tells a (crude) joke. Someone's acting suspicious in the corner? Linden comes over with a drink and chats them up. If things do escalate or he arrives too late to diffuse, he'll use his size to break things up and employ a condescending tone to tell everyone what idiots they're being.

2. How do they handle spooks and scares? Linden is a tough boy. At least outwardly. Good luck spooking him. Jump scares are met with an arched eyebrow -- that all you got? -- but if there were a peanut between his butt cheeks, its shell would shatter into a million pieces at the force of his CLENCH.

3. What are their general feelings on Halloween? Linden loves Halloween! But he has disdain for those who half ass their costumes. A mask isn't a costume. "I'm dressed up as myself." Fuck you.

4. What's their combat style? Pummeling. With fists or magic.

5. Are you okay with your character getting moderately injured? Yee.
